- Our history began as a local construction company started in the early 1900's by Mr. John D. Lawrence,
who had worked for his father’s company, Wm. H. Lawrence & Sons. In 1954 Mr. Lawrence
incorporated John D. Lawrence, Inc. General Contractors & Engineers.
During Mr. Lawrence’s 45 years in the business, JDL, Inc. was one of the leading institutional
and commercial builders of Southern New Jersey churches, hospitals, schools and industrial
buildings.
When Mr. Lawrence retired in 1964, the business came under direction of his sons John D., Jr.
and William H. Lawrence. In 1988 the Lawrence’s retired and James F. Parry took over as
president.
JDL, Inc. has become one of the areas prominent industrial and commercial contractors.
Our client list consists of refineries, power plants & substations, telecommunications, chemical
and pharmaceutical facilities, manufacturing, government and institutional.
SAFETY
At John D. Lawrence, Inc., safety is always a priority. We specifically train all of our
managers and field personnel to work in commercial and industrial environments. Our
company policies are continually updated with safety in mind.
Our employees regularly attend training classes at the facilities in which we work. They
also attend additional training given by outside organizations. As a result, we have
successfully completed work at many difficult sites without incident and without disturbing
ongoing operations.
Some examples of outside organizations in which we are members and/or send our employees to would be:

Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour / 30-hour training.

The South Jersey Chemical Manufacturers Safety Council, A member of the
Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils, Inc. (ARSC). This is a four and a half
hour safety course which is required by a majority of our clients.
